Long bio, 150 words
UJJAY makes medicine music: tribal, organic electronic sound that moves between ceremony space and dancefloor, woven from mantras, natural instrumentation and an ongoing relationship with the Yawanawá of Acre, Brazil. He plays djembe and sings live over his own sets. His sets have carried rooms from the Himalayan foothills of India to the islands of Indonesia and the coastlines of Mexico.
The craft runs two decades deep. His love of music was sparked by his rave-culture parents, and he has been behind decks since secondary school. He was previously signed to Yousef’s Circus Recordings as BROADHURST, before committing fully to this sound. His Om Namah Shivaya on Interplay Flow was picked for Beatport’s “Best New Hype” organic house list.
He holds three residencies on the UK conscious festival circuit, and through Awaken, the events brand he founded, he brings his own audience with him: a following built on gatherings, not algorithms.

How to write the name
- UJJAY: set in full capitals.
- BROADHURST: full capitals too, and only as a historic credit for the Circus Recordings and Nothing But releases.
- Yawanawá: with the accent. That is the spelling used in the Yawanawá’s own documents.
- Awaken: the events brand, distinct from the artist.
